Bangladesh and China to Enhance Cooperation on Water Management

Bangladesh and China are set to strengthen their collaboration in water management and environmental sustainability, as discussed during a meeting between Water Resources and Environment Adviser Syeda Rizwana Hasan and Chinese Ambassador Yao Wen on Wednesday at the Bangladesh Secretariat.

During the meeting, the Chinese ambassador expressed his country's commitment to sharing expertise in water management, building a smart water conservation system, and enhancing data sharing during floods. China also proposed providing training in water conservation and promoting technical collaboration between the two nations.

Rizwana Hasan highlighted the importance of international partnerships in addressing environmental challenges, emphasizing the need for greater cooperation in river management, flood prevention, and infrastructure projects. She suggested forming a Joint Committee and fostering collaboration between Bangladeshi and Chinese water research institutions to strengthen bilateral ties.

The Chinese envoy expressed interest in working together on areas such as river pollution control, ecological management, solar energy, electric vehicles, water resources management, capacity building, and hydrological data sharing. He also noted that Bangladesh could further enhance its prosperity by fully utilizing its rivers.

Both sides concluded the meeting with optimism about deepening bilateral relations and exploring future cooperation in environmental sustainability and water resource management.
