Radical Reform Essential for Tackling Climate Change: Yunus

Chief Adviser Professor Dr Muhammad Yunus has emphasised the need for radical reform in the global framework to effectively tackle climate change, with a focus on achieving net-zero carbon emissions and addressing extreme resource inequality.
He made this statement during an event titled 'Climate Forward', organised by The New York Times on Wednesday.
The day-long event, which was hosted by The New York Times, brought together innovators, activists, scientists, and policymakers to explore solutions for combating climate change. It was broadcast live from The New York Times Studios.
Notable speakers included anthropologist Jane Goodall, among others.
Prof Yunus highlighted the difficulties faced by countries like Bangladesh, which are severely impacted by climate change.
When asked about the responsibility of wealthier nations towards countries like Bangladesh, he stated that global climate action must prioritise net-zero emissions and the reduction of extreme resource inequality.
"Why should we bear the burden of destruction that you have imposed on us?" he questioned, addressing the responsibility of richer countries in contributing to the climate crisis.
