Gold price in Bangladesh reaches record high

The price of gold has increased again in the local market. After a consecutive rise in three phases, the price of 22-carat gold has been set at BDT 135,664 per bhori (11.664 grams).
The new rate has come into effect from today, Wednesday, 25th September, across the country.
On Tuesday, the Bangladesh Jewellers Association (BAJUS) announced the price hike in a press release. It stated that the increase in the price of refined gold (pure gold) in the local market has led to this adjustment.
According to the new rates, 22-carat gold will now cost BDT 135,664 per bhori. In addition, 21-carat gold will be priced at BDT 129,505 per bhori, 18-carat gold at BDT 110,995 per bhori, and traditional method gold at BDT 91,038 per bhori.
However, the price of silver remains unchanged. Based on category, the current price of 22-carat silver is BDT 2,100 per bhori, 21-carat silver is BDT 2,006 per bhori, and 18-carat silver is BDT 1,715 per bhori. Silver priced by the traditional method costs BDT 1,283 per bhori.
BAJUS also stated that the price of gold includes a mandatory 5% VAT as determined by the government and a minimum wage of 6% set by BAJUS. However, labour charges may vary depending on the design and quality of the jewellery.
It’s worth noting that on 21st September, BAJUS last adjusted the price of gold in the market. At that time, they raised the price of 22-carat gold by BDT 3,149 per bhori, setting it at BDT 133,051.
The price for 21-carat gold was set at BDT 126,998 per bhori, 18-carat gold at BDT 108,860 per bhori, and traditional method gold at BDT 89,218 per bhori, effective from 22nd September.
