12,000 Bhori Gold Missing from Samabaya Bank: Adviser

Local Government Adviser of Bangladesh Interim Governement AF Hassan Ariff has expressed concerns over the disappearance of 12,000 bhori of gold from Bangladesh Samabaya Bank Ltd, stating that the bank's assets are now missing.

Speaking at a press conference following the 57th Annual Planning Conference of the Bangladesh Rural Development Academy (BRDA) on Sunday, Ariff remarked, “Other cooperatives are entangled in conflicts and lawsuits over leadership positions in empty committees."

The event was attended by notable figures such as PPRC Chairman Dr Hossain Zillur Rahman, local government expert Professor Dr Tofail Ahmed, and BRDA Director General Saif Uddin Ahmed, with Mosammat Shahaanara Khatun, secretary of the Rural Development and Cooperatives Division of the Ministry of LGRD, presiding over the session.

In his speech, the adviser pointed out that many cooperatives are facing difficulties due to a lack of collaborative mindset among members, who seem more focused on joining committees than on actual development.

The conference also spotlighted BRDA's research and efforts in rural development and cooperatives in Bangladesh. Special guests offered various recommendations to address the ongoing challenges in the sector.
