6 Bangladesh Universities, Including CU and JnU, Get New VCs

The Ministry of Education has announced the appointment of new vice chancellors (VCs) for six prominent universities in Bangladesh, including Chittagong University (CU), Jagannath University (JnU), Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST), Jatiya Kabi Kazi Nazrul Islam University, Begum Rokeya University, Rangpur (BRUR), and Mawlana Bhashani Science and Technology University (MBSTU) in Tangail.
On Tuesday, the ministry’s secondary and higher education division issued separate notifications detailing the appointments.
Muhammad Yeahia Akhter, a retired professor from CU’s political science department, has been appointed as the vice-chancellor of Chittagong University. His term will be temporary, according to the ministry’s notification.
Meanwhile, former JnU social work faculty member Professor Rezaul Karim has been appointed as the new VC of Jagannath University. His appointment was confirmed by a gazette notification signed by Deputy Secretary Shahinur Islam.
In Sylhet’s SUST, Professor AM Sarwaruddin Chowdhury of Dhaka University's applied chemistry and chemical engineering department has been appointed as the VC. Additionally, SUST’s new pro-VC is Md Shajedul Karim, a professor in the mathematics department, while Md Ismail Hossain from the social work department will serve as the university’s treasurer.
Professor Md Showkat Ali from Dhaka University's applied mathematics department has been named the VC of Begum Rokeya University in Rangpur. The terms of both JnU and BRUR VCs will last for four years, starting from the date of assumption of office, according to the notifications.
Jatiya Kabi Kazi Nazrul Islam University in Mymensingh will now be led by Md Jahangir Alam, a sociology professor from Dhaka University. His four-year term will commence upon joining, as stated in the official notification.
Finally, Mawlana Bhashani Science and Technology University in Tangail has appointed Md. Anwarul Azim Akhand, a professor from Dhaka University’s genetic engineering and biotechnology department, as its new VC. His term will also be for four years.
