DU suspends all political activities on campus

The Dhaka University (DU) administration has decided to halt all political activities by students, teachers, officers, and employees on campus until further notice.
This decision was made during an emergency syndicate meeting held on Thursday at the Vice-Chancellor's Lounge in the administrative building of Dhaka University. Of the 17 syndicate members, 15 were in attendance.
Following the meeting, several syndicate members confirmed the decision. One syndicate member, who wished to remain anonymous, disclosed that the emergency session lasted from 7pm to 8:45pm. After nearly two hours of deliberation, the suspension of all political activities was finalised.
Another source revealed that the decision to ban political activities on campus is set to be officially announced on Friday.
Meanwhile, student coordinator Sarjis Alam confirmed the development via a Facebook post, stating: "With this decision, let the journey toward building a new Bangladesh begin today."
This decision follows one of the key demands raised during the quota reform movement, where students called for a ban on partisan politics on university campuses.
In the wake of the Awami League government's fall on August 5, student protests and rallies have continued, with participants demanding an end to partisan politics on campuses.
Simultaneously, the university witnessed violence on Wednesday night. A young man was beaten to death at Fazlul Huq Hall (FH Hall) on suspicion of theft. On the same night, a former leader of the Chhatra League was also beaten to death by students at Jahangirnagar University.
These two incidents have sparked widespread debate and condemnation across the country. Various groups, organisations, and individuals have voiced their concerns over the killings.
In response to the death at DU, four students from FH Hall have already been arrested.
Amid this backdrop, the DU syndicate decided to suspend all forms of partisan politics on campus.
