Advisers’ Council Approves Interim Government Ordinance 2024

The Advisers' Council of the interim government has today approved the draft of the 'Interim Government Ordinance 2024' in principle.
The approval was granted during a meeting chaired by Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus, as announced by a Cabinet Division press release.
The meeting took place at the Chief Adviser’s office in Dhaka.
Amidst the anti-discrimination student movement, following the severe repression and genocide carried out by the ousted Awami League government, widespread protests erupted across the nation. At one point, the students unified under a single demand — the ousting of the government.
In the face of this mass uprising, the then Prime Minister resigned on 5 August and fled the country, submitting their resignation to the President. The President subsequently dissolved the 12th National Parliament on 6 August.
On 8 August, an interim government was formed by the President to address the students' calls for state reform and to oversee the executive functions of the state.
To define the powers and responsibilities of the newly formed Interim Government, along with the rank and privileges of the Chief Adviser and Advisers, the draft of the Interim Government Ordinance 2024 has been finalised.
The Council also approved a draft policy requiring the publication of income and wealth statements for the Interim Government's advisers and individuals of equivalent rank.
