Mbappé Scores in 4 Straight Matches, Real’s Stunning Win

Kylian Mbappé faced quite a bit of criticism for failing to score in the first three La Liga matches. Real Madrid also struggled in those games where he didn’t score. Many reminded him that La Liga is not a “farmers' league” (a term some use to describe Ligue 1 due to its perceived lack of competition). But Mbappé has been answering his critics in spectacular fashion.

After failing to score in Real Madrid’s first three La Liga games, Mbappé found the net 4 times in the next three matches. Including the Champions League, he has now scored 5 goals in four consecutive games. Most recently, he netted a penalty in Real Madrid’s 4-1 win against Espanyol last night.

With this, Mbappé became only the second Real Madrid player in the 21st century to score from the penalty spot in three consecutive La Liga matches. In addition to scoring, Mbappé also provided an assist for Vinícius Júnior’s goal, marking his first assist for Real Madrid.

Alongside Mbappé, Vinícius Júnior also displayed remarkable skill in this match. Real Madrid, who had failed to score in the first half and were trailing due to an own goal, saw their fortunes change after Vinícius was brought on as a substitute in the 55th minute. In addition to scoring a goal, he also assisted in another. Real Madrid’s other two goals were scored by Rodrygo and Dani Carvajal.

Despite this victory, Real Madrid remains second in the La Liga standings. With 4 wins and 2 draws from 6 matches, they have 14 points. Barcelona, who have played one less match, are at the top with 16 points. Barça will face Villarreal tonight.

After the match, Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti expressed his satisfaction with the performances of Vinícius and Mbappé. He said, "I think the match was good for us. After Espanyol's goal, the players responded well. We played very well and created many chances. I am pleased."

With this win, Real Madrid remains unbeaten in 38 consecutive La Liga matches. Their last defeat in this competition was a year ago, in September, against Atlético Madrid.

Commenting on Real Madrid’s impressive form, captain Luka Modrić said, "This says a lot. It’s a great achievement to remain unbeaten for so many weeks. We must maintain this consistency."
