Neymar shares his thoughts on the World Cup in Saudi Arabia

Saudi Arabia is on the verge of being confirmed as the host of the 2034 World Cup. The Gulf nation is now the sole candidate to host the 25th edition of the football tournament, and Brazilian forward Neymar is thrilled at the prospect of the World Cup being held there.

Last October, Australia withdrew from the race to host the 2034 World Cup, leaving Saudi Arabia as the only contender. FIFA is expected to confirm Saudi Arabia as the host country following a member vote later this year. Neymar is currently playing for Saudi Pro League club Al Hilal.

In a video message released by Al Hilal on Monday, Neymar expressed his support for Saudi Arabia, saying, "I would be happy if the World Cup is held in Saudi Arabia. I believe it would be an exciting tournament for everyone. People from all over the world would have the opportunity to learn more about Saudi culture and the country itself. Being here with everyone would be a great experience... they deserve this opportunity."

Neymar left French club PSG in August 2023 to join Al Hilal but has been sidelined after just five matches due to an ACL injury. The 32-year-old star has been out of action since last October and is currently in the final stages of recovery.

From the next edition onwards, the World Cup will feature 48 teams. The 2026 tournament will be co-hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico. The 2030 World Cup will primarily be hosted by Morocco, Portugal, and Spain, but in celebration of the tournament's centenary, one match each will be held in Argentina, Paraguay, and Uruguay.

If Saudi Arabia hosts the World Cup, it will take place in November and December, just like the 2022 edition in Qatar, where Argentina emerged as champions after defeating France in the final.
