Shakib Al Hasan’s Retirement Announcement

Shakib Al Hasan is bringing his career to an end. He will bid farewell to red-ball cricket after playing a Test match against South Africa in Mirpur. Additionally, he has already played his final T20 match.

On Thursday, Shakib himself made this announcement at a press conference in Kanpur, just one day before he is set to play in the second Test against India. The 37-year-old star cricketer revealed his decision to retire.

Shakib stated that he has already discussed his retirement plans with the selection panel. He expressed his desire to retire after playing the Test against South Africa upon his return to the country.

He said, "I believe I have already played my last match in T20s. If I can play in the Mirpur Test (against South Africa), it will be my final Test."

Shakib Al Hasan had hinted at the end of his career a long time ago. Last November, before heading to India for the ODI World Cup, he mentioned that he wanted to retire very soon.

Now, just before the Kanpur Test, he has made this announcement. Shakib confirmed that he is retiring from both formats of the game.

He played his last T20 match against Afghanistan in the T20 World Cup held in the West Indies. That was his final T20 match. Additionally, the Champions Trophy will be held in Pakistan in February, and he intends to say goodbye to ODI cricket during that tournament.
