Chief Adviser returns from US visit

Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus returned home in the early hours of today, concluding his four-day visit to the USA, where he attended the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) and participated in several high-level side events.
“The Chief Adviser and his entourage landed at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at 3:32 am today on a Qatar Airways commercial flight,” said CA’s Press Secretary, Shafiqul Alam.
The flight had departed from JFK International Airport in New York at 9:30 pm (local time) on Friday.
During his visit to the USA, the Chief Adviser held 40 high-level meetings with heads of government from 12 countries, including US President Joe Biden, as well as with leaders of various international organisations.
On September 24, Professor Yunus held a bilateral meeting with US President Joseph R. Biden, in addition to addressing the UNGA session on Friday, September 27.
Among other key engagements, he participated in bilateral talks with UN Secretary-General António Guterres, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, Pakistan Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, Nepal Prime Minister KP Sharma, and Netherlands Prime Minister Dick Schoof.
Several high-profile figures, including Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen, UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Türk, US Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken, UNHCR Commissioner Filippo Grandi, World Bank President Ajay Banga, and USAID Administrator Samantha Power, met with the Chief Adviser during his stay in New York.
The Chief Adviser also took part in several high-level events on the sidelines of the UNGA session.
Professor Yunus arrived in New York on September 23 to attend the 79th UNGA session.
